a million love songs later...

well we've made it - today at about 3-ish pm, we will have known each other for ten years - then two weeks later we'll be celebrating a second anniversary of something i can't really talk about in mixed company

i've always said that putting my feelings into words is difficult as anything i say or write will just sound trite, banal and cliched - a lifetime of love songs and poems couldn't really do it either

ten years is celebrated in tin or aluminium which is apparently a reflection of the durability of a relationship capable of bending without breaking - very apt, don't you think?

its associated colours are blue and silver which is good as one of our joint all time favourite sci-fi-fantasy shows is 'sapphire & steel'

but i digress...

some time during that first year when it was slowly dawning on me how important you'd become in my life, i emailed the lyrics of a song to you and though i said poems and songs can't do our feelings justice, this one comes very close to summing up mine fairly accurately, even if the lyrics are corny and slushy - it did then, it still does now and, no doubt, will continue to do so for a long time to come

Once I believed that when love came to me,
It would come with rocket bells and poetry.
But with me and you,
It just started quietly and grew
And believe it or not,
Now there's something groovy and good 'bout whatever we've got.

And it's gettin' better, growing stronger
Warmer and wilder
Gettin' better everyday, better everyday.

I don't feel all turned-on and starry-eyed.
I just feel a sweet contentment deep inside.
Holding you at night
Just seems kind of natural and right.
And it's not hard to see
That it isn't half of what it's gonna turn out to be.

'Cause it gettin' better, growing stronger.
Warmer and wilder
Gettin' better everyday, better everyday.

And I don't mind waitin'
I don't mind waitin'.
Cos no matter how long it takes
The two of us know.
That it's gettin' better, growin' stronger
Warmer and wilder
Gettin' better everyday, better everyday.
